"today in the bay's" arturo santiago is live at the fremont police headquarters. >> reporter: the fremont police department's phone lines, regular phone lines, will be down for about an hour. you will still be able to reach the police department and 911 calls will not be after if he canned during the outage. the department is going through a system upgrade. as the work is being done, the regular phone numbers at the headquarters will be down from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. the outage will include all dialing in and dialing out and voice mail for the police department, the jail and the animal shelter. now, if you call the regular numbers during the outage, all you will hear is a busy signal. now, again, 911 calls will not be affected during the upgrade. if you do need to contact police, they have set up an alternative nonemergency number. that number is 510-791-4200. the fr

in fremont where frustrations are piling up. >> reporter: michelle, frustrations and trash. that's for sure. fremont is one of the cities that's been suffering the worst. now, this is the second time in a month trash will be sitting out a little bit longer. these piles and piles of trash at tens of thousands of fremont homes are sittg still because of a garbage strike. the first time bay area trash workers were striking in solidarity with workers in youngstown, ohio. thisime, work forces with others in tennessee. it's part of a so-called sympathy strike. but fremont neighbors are not so sympathetic to their cae. >> it would make more sense, a lot more sense you know, if they were striking here for something here. but if they are doing it for someplace else, they shouldn't be. >> reporter: as we mentioned, it's affected several bay area cities but fremont has seen the worst of it. garbage has been sitting out at least 45,000 homes and businesses. now, coming up in the next half hour, we'll hear from the city's mayor and how he is trying to get things back on track. reporting live in fremont,

in san jose and 12 in fremont and most of us are in the 70's today away from san francisco and the coast. we are seeing the pressure grade relax as the low moves away and the highs start to come in and take over. the high also is bringing warmer weather with it today and tomorrow. and mid-to-upper 70's in the south bay and san jose at 76 and the peninsula low-to-mid 70's and millbrae is a breeze at 69 and low-to-mid 60's along the coast with sunset at 65, and hopefully, no more blowing sand and upper 60's downtown and south san francisco and sausalito at mid-60's and the same for the beaches. 74 in oakland and hercules and union city are the warmer spots and fremont is at 76. mid-to-upper 70's throughout the east bay valley with concord and pittsburg at 77. tonight the temperatures are cooler than this morning at mid-40's to low 50's with a breeze again. tomorrow, the breeze will blow from land to sea and that is why it will be so much warmer, mid-80's inland and upper 70's around the bay and mid-60's at the coast and temperatures are above average and the weather stays dry thursday thro

extension from fremont to san jose is starting to ramp up. and in the months to come, drivers in the area can expect numerous road closures and lane restrictions. kron 4's charles clifford has an update on the >> reporter: the extension of bart from fremont to north san jose is 10 miles long and there are 11 places where the new railway crosses existing roads and crews will need to build new intersections. that means a lot of traffic delays over the months to come. in the very near future, there are two projects that will affect traffic. fremont will be close down this weekend between kato road and warm springs boulevard. that same stretch of road will be closed again the weekend of april 29th. now, starting next monday hostetter road in san jose between lundy avenue and flickinger avenue will be reduced from three to two lanes in both directions so that crews can start building a new overpass for the new bart rails. that work is expected to continue for 7 to 9 months. the entire bart extension project is scheduled to be completed in 2018 with a price tag of 3.2 billion dollars. in the ne
